How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke the royal stereotypes?

Prince Harry has always been a bit of a wild child, partying harder than the rest, also while being funny, brave, kind and being a big kid at heart.  Meghan Markle, on the other hand, has challenged beauty standards and has been a serious humanitarian at heart. It’s only obvious that this royal duo is more prone to breaking stereotypes.

Here are a few ways their engagement made headlines:

SHE IS AN ACTRESS AND BELONGS TO A NORMAL FAMILY

Unlike Kate Middleton, who is a descendant of a posh British family, Meghan Markle is an actress, most famous for her role in Suits. This is probably the most prominent move of hers on breaking the stereotype.

SHE IS A CATHOLIC

British royals are tolerant of every religion, but according to British norms, in order to stay in the line of succession, one has to be a member of The Church of England. Meghan, on the other hand, went to a Catholic school.

SHE HAS BEEN MARRIED BEFORE

Meghan Markle was married to producer Trevor Engelson but got divorced in August 2003. Marrying a divorced woman is certainly a bold move for Prince Harry.

THEY HOLD HANDS AND KISS IN PUBLIC

Taking a note from William and Kate’s diaries, holding hands or kissing in public is not allowed for royals because  they are (per royal etiquette Myka Meier), “working representatives of British Monarchy.” Clearly, our recent royal lovebirds aren’t abiding by this unspoken rule.
